DJI Go 4.1.4

martinbogo: Part 1

So, I have .. news .. I flew my P4 w/ 604 firmware, using 4.1.4 Android Go. You know that 500 meter limit? It doesn't apply when the drone loses radio contact I guess. It flew straight up, until it lost battery power. And the only reason I recovered the drone was this little gagdet – which I think EVERYONE who owns a P4/P4A/P4P/P4P+ should own : http://www.robotshop.com/en/mars-lite-uav-drone-parachute-dji-phantom-4.html

Incredibly light weight Compact footprint Specifically designed for the phantom 4 Incredibly easy to install All hardware included. Thanks to the M.A.R.S. with auto-recovery, no damage at all. Drone landed gently in a field 3km away

I always have the recovery chutes installed when I'm doing flight testing

martinbogo: Part 2

Well THAT was interesting. I just spent the whole afternoon doing P4, P4P, Mavic, and ( finally ) Spark flight testing. 4.1.4 is awful. I mean, not that 4.1.3 was a work of art or anything, but I wonder if DJI did _any_ serious coverage testing in 4.1.4. This was on 4.1.4 - not 4.1.4v2 ( aka 4.1.5 ). but here's the results:

  • P4/P4P/Mavic - 500m ceiling confirmed, no matter what values I input to over-ride
  • P4 running 01.02.0602 did two vertical fly-aways
    • First one described above
    • Second time, I had the boosted antenna, and was able to do a manual motor-off which resulted in a second parachute recovery
  • Mavic, even though I signed in TWICE, was stuck in “gimpy-local” mode, runing firmware 01.03.0900
  • P4A and P4P flights were fairly tame otherwise, and P4P was running firmware V01.04.0602
  • Spark was a blast to fly, but it's really a toy compared to the other UAV's. Too much wind on the field today ( 20mph gusts ) to fly it safely
  • OH! and I lost video on the Mavic, twice. Just .. cut out, no reason I could see.
  • Downgrading to 700 seemed to solve most of the issues
